Lactose Intolerance

The Chinese distaste for milk was thought to be a cultural one, until scientists in the 1960s discovered lactose intolerance in Asians, Africans, and southern Europeans. Within the past 10,000 years, a genetic change allowed the ability to digest milk to evolve, but only where dairy farming was the norm. If you can't tolerate milk, your relatives probably left cow udders alone.

Treatment
Generally, the reduction or removal of milk products diet improves symptoms.
Most people with low levels of lactase can tolerate 55-115 grams of milk at one time (till half cup) without symptoms. Larger portions (225 grams) can cause problems for people with lactase deficiency.
These dairy products may be easier to digest:
• Milk, butter and cheeses (they have less lactose than milk)
• Fermented milk products such as yogurt
• Goat milk (must be ingested with meals supplemented with essential amino acids and vitamins if offered to children
• Ice cream, milk shakes and aged cheeses or hard
• Milk and dairy products without lactose
• Cow's milk treated with lactase for older children and adults
• Soy formulas for infants under 2 years
• Soy milk or rice to small children
You can add enzyme lactase to milk normal or take them into capsules or chewable tablets.
However, the absence of milk in the diet can lead to a calcium, vitamin D, riboflavin and protein.
Perhaps it is necessary to find new ways to add calcium to your diet (it takes 1200-1500 mg of calcium per day):
• Take calcium supplements
• Eat foods that have more calcium (leafy greens, oysters, sardines, canned salmon, shrimp and broccoli)
• Drink orange juice containing calcium
Read food labels. Lactose is also found in some non-dairy products, including some beers.

Prevention
There is a known way to prevent lactose intolerance.
If you are able, prevent or limit the amount of dairy in your diet can reduce or prevent symptoms.
