Aarskog Syndrome

Aarskog syndrome is an inherited disease that affects the height muscles, skeleton, genitals, and appearance of the face of the people. Hereditary means that it is passed from generation to generation within a family.
Treatment
Moving the teeth (orthodontic treatment) can be done to correct some facial abnormalities.
Support Groups
The MAGIC Foundation for Children's Growth is a support group for patients with Aarskog syndrome and can be found in www.magicfoundation.org.
Perspectives
Some people may suffer from low levels of slowness of reasoning, but affected children usually have good social skills. Some men can have fertility problems.
Possible complications
• Cystic changes in the brain
• Difficulties in growth in the first year of life
• Teeth aligned irregularly
• Seizures
• Retained Testicles

You should contact your medical care provider if your child has delayed growth or if you notice any symptoms of Aarskog syndrome. Seek genetic counseling if you have family history with Aarskog syndrome. Contact a genetic specialist if your doctor suspects that you or your son / daughter may suffer the Aarskog syndrome.
Prevention

Genetic testing may be available for people with a history of family members with this disease or a known mutation of this gene.
