According to the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of the United States, the gestational pemphigoid is a skin disorder characterized by blistering in the abdomen and in some cases in other parts of the body of the mother. Mothers can develop this condition during the second or third trimester of pregnancy and after childbirth. In rarer cases, the child may also be born with allergies.
Joanne Mackie, 28, developed painful blisters and a strange allergy shortly after giving birth to her son James. The mother was in so much pain caused by allergies that could not even hold her son and had to cover her arms to catch him. After a few months, the allergy has passed, but Joanne got dark scars in places where it had bubbles.
