Viral Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is an infectious disease often caused by chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is transmitted sexually or by needles with infected blood and can progress to cirrhosis or liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma). Hepatitis D (HDV) only attack cells already infected by HBV thus worsening the prognosis of patients with chronic HBV.
The main form of contamination occurs through sex and injection of illicit drugs, and the main current concerns. The acquisition by blood transfusion and derivatives no longer the main reason, since the implementation of strict care in the existing blood banks and the extinction of payment to donors. The baby can get hepatitis in childbirth when the mother has the virus.
Treatment
Can become chronic, however, in most cases is cured naturally.
Prevention
The vaccine is distributed to young people up to 19 years and for vulnerable groups (pregnant women, health workers and manicures etc). Condom use is essential.
