It is a tumor that develops in the spinal region of the adrenal gland, responsible for the overproduction of adrenaline and noradrenaline. The disease is characterized by bouts of high blood pressure or high blood pressure constant. Besides the adrenal tumor can appear anywhere along the sympathetic nerve chain, and rarely in locations as aberrant chest, bladder or brain.
Treatment
The treatment of choice is surgical removal of the tumor. To control high blood pressure uses a drug blocking the action of adrenaline and noradrenaline. For inoperable tumors and metastases distance, clinical treatment with metyrosine (competitive blocker in the synthesis of catecholamines) is useful. Pheochromocytomas metastatic may be further treated with a combination of high-dose chemotherapy and metaiodobenzylguanidine.
Prevention
There is no way to prevent the appearance of pheochromocytoma. One must seek specialized medical care in the face of signs and symptoms mentioned above.
