Cancer Renal Cell Carcinoma

Renal cell carcinoma is a type of cancer that begins in the lining of very small tubes (tubules) in the kidney.

Treatment
We recommend surgical removal of all or part of the kidney (nephrectomy). This can include removing the bladder and the surrounding tissue or lymph nodes. The cure is unlikely unless all the cancer is surgically removed.
The hormonal treatment can reduce tumor growth in some cases.
Chemotherapy is usually not effective for treatment of renal cell carcinoma. However, the drug interleukin-2 (IL-2) can help a small number of patients. It causes the body's own immune system kill cancer cells. She is very toxic.
Other chemotherapy drugs were used, but patients generally do not live long after the disease spreads outside the kidney.
Newer drugs for the treatment of kidney cancer include:
• Sorafenib (Nexavar)
• Sunitinib (Sutent)
• Temsirolimus (Torisel)
• Bevacizumab (Avastin)
In general, the radiation does not work for RCC, so it is not frequently used.
Prevention
Stop smoking. Follow your doctor's recommendations for treatment of kidney disorders, especially those requiring dialysis.
