Elephantiasis


Elephantiasis is the stretching of the skin caused by overpopulation of parasites that can infect us through mosquito bites. It is not uncommon in Africa. A somewhat different disease is caused by the simple touch of the ball of the foot with contaminated soil. In parts of Ethiopia about 6% of the population suffers from the problem and is one of the most common diseases that make people invalid in the world. There are several efforts to eradicate the disease that is expected to disappear by 2020.
Treatment
The treatment of elephantiasis is done with taking the medicamentoscomo Dietilcarbazina or Albendazole and sometimes surgery to correct the lymphatic system.
Prevention
The prevention of elephantiasis is done with the use of mosquito nets to sleep; screens on windows and doors; avoid leaving standing water in tires, bottles and vases, for example, use repellent daily; avoid places with flies and mosquitoes, and fits to use government resources to fight the flies and mosquitoes as spraying poisons the air, such as fogging and sanitation measures.
