Aortic aneurysm


An abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs when the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the abdomen, the pelvis and legs becomes strangely becomes swollen or greater.
Treatment

If the aneurysm is small and there are no symptoms:

There are two approaches to surgery:
• In a traditional repair (open), it made a large cut in the abdomen. The abnormal vessel is replaced by a graft made of synthetic material such as Dacron.

Prevention
To reduce the risk of aneurysms:
• Maintain a healthy diet for the heart, exercitese, stop smoking and reduce stress to help lower your chances of having a blocked artery again.
• Your doctor may prescribe a medication to help lower your cholesterol.
• If you are prescribed medication for blood pressure or diabetes, eat them as medical advice.
Men over 65 who ever smoked should perform an ultrasound examination.
