Asthma

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects 10% of the population, accounting for about 400,000 hospitalizations per year and countless outpatient especially in emergencies. Has led to a large absenteeism at work and school. Asthma leads to constriction of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness to a variety of stimulation and release of inflammatory mediators. Occurs by an interaction of environmental and hereditary factors.
A major cause of morbidity and mortality of asthma is the lack of information about the disease and a high rate of rejection of inhaled medication, pejoratively called a "puffer".
Treatment
Treatment of asthma is made primarily by anti-inflammatory drugs (usually inhaled steroids) for maintenance and bronchodilators (typically beta-2-adrenergic effect of inhaled fast) for the crises. Other medications such as anti-leukotrienes are used for the treatment of chronic asthma.
The biggest advantage of using inhaled medications (nebulizers, metered-dose inhalers or sprays - popularly known as "firecrackers" and powder inhalers) in the treatment of asthma is the possibility of achieving greater therapeutic effect associated with lower systemic repercussions. Because the drug acts directly on the respiratory mucosa, allowing the use of relatively small doses. Another advantage is the faster onset of action.
Aside from medication, patients should seek rest, stay well nourished and participate in regular physical activity and appropriate for your welfare. All these factors contribute to the control of this disease.
