Bacillary dysentery

Acute infectious disease whose evolution, though cumbersome, is usually benign.
Treatment
The treatment is based on the administration of antibiotics to kill the bacteria responsible. In addition to maintaining the patient at rest and to follow a slight diet, the important additional measure is to ensure adequate fluid intake, to prevent a possible frame dehydration. Sometimes, especially in case of severe vomiting, one should proceed to hydration parenterally.
Symptoms, causes and diagnostic features
The main symptoms are fever, malaise, toxicity, diarrhea (bloody typical), colicky abdominal pain.
Positive fecal leukocytes; microorganism isolated from stool in immunosuppressed patients, the blood culture is often
positive - but less compromising in other cases.
Differential Diagnosis
. Infection by Salmonella and Campylobacter
. Amebiasis
. Ulcerative colitis
. Viral gastroenteritis
. Food poisoning
