Oral contraception emergency
How it works
The oral emergency contraception helps prevent unwanted pregnancies and therefore unsafe abortion, preventing pregnancy after intercourse without contraceptive protection. It is also known as the morning after pill. As the name says, should be used in EMERGENCY and not routinely. Young people need to be better oriented in relation to its use.
This method prevents pregnancy by several mechanisms, all of which interfere with fertilization, which is the union of egg and sperm. The most studied are the inhibition or delay ovulation, which depend on the cycle period that coitus takes place and taking the pills. Other studies show that interferes with sperm capacitation and transport of sperm and egg through the female genital tract. The oral emergency contraception does not affect the implantation of an already fertilized ovum or interrupt an established pregnancy.
• Safety contraceptive The efficacy of the interference at fertilization is greater the smaller is the time between intercourse and taking pills. This explains why emergency contraception is more effective the earlier it is taken after intercourse.
• Protection from STDs: No offers protection.
