Poliomyelitis - Infant Paralysis
Poliomyelitis, also known as infantile paralysis when it attacks children, is a viral infection caused by the poliovirus. The disease can be mild or severe. In more severe cases, polio can lead to paralysis and death.
Treatment
There are specific medicines or antibiotics that are effective against poliovirus. People who contract polio need medical attention to assess the potential complications of the disease and for rehabilitation.
Prevention
The only effective way to control polio is to maintain the highest possible vaccination in the community.
