Migraine

Migraine is a chemical imbalance in the brain involving hormones and substances called peptides. This imbalance results from a series of other neurochemical and hormonal imbalances arising from lifestyle and habits of the patient's disease migraine, and also a genetic predisposition. The result is a series of symptoms that may go far beyond the headache. By the way, there are cases of migraine without or with very little headache. Generally however, the headache is the most dramatic symptom of migraine and its intensity, while variable, in most cases is moderate to severe.
A migraine headache may be throbbing (pulsating) by weight, or a feeling of "pressure out" as if his head would explode.
The location of the headache of migraine can vary from crisis to crisis, rarely hurts in the same place. The pain of migraine can occur anywhere on the head, including the region of the teeth, sinuses and neck, giving rise to confusion with dental problems, sinus and column.

Treatment

The treatment of migraine has three phases: early pain, already installed and prevention.

In acute migraine is important to distinguish between the onset of pain and pain already installed. Earlier, migraines can be treated with analgesics and ergot derivatives. In phase installed pain analgesics do not act as well. In this phase, the triptans act better. However, medications are very expensive.

Prevention

The prevention of migraine is possible with various types of medications. Beta blockers and antidepressants have been preventive in migraine in many patients. The patient should take the medication on a daily basis to prevent the pain appears. It is not known exactly how the drugs act to prevent migraine headaches, but they can prevent the onset of pain and are indicated for patients with very frequent and intense pain.
