Osteoporosis


Osteoporosis means porous bone, or is the progressive decalcification of the bones to become fragile. It is a disease in which there is a decrease in bone mass and deterioration of bone quality, which becomes more fragile. The higher this fragility, the greater the risk of a fracture. Although the occurrence is higher in women, men can also have the disease, which becomes more common with aging. Bones grow until 20 years. Thereafter, the density rises to 35 and the weight loss begins gradually - or osteoporosis. The process is faster in women, especially after menopause.
Treatment
Exercising, avoiding smoking and excess coffee and alcohol are necessary measures. It should also increase intake of calcium and vitamin D, through diet or medication use. The physician should evaluate their use as each case.
Risk Factors
Risk factors for osteoporosis include: - History of family illness, advanced age, prolonged assets; Some types of medicines; Alcoholism and smoking; Diseases that interfere with bone metabolism.
