In 1945, the Americans dropped atomic
bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Thousands of people died
instantly. Further, months, or years later the effects of radiation. But many
doctors and nurses who rescued the survivors were not affected. Always
suspected that one of the reasons was the soybean meal used to make soup, miso
soup popular in Japan long ago, science has found the explanation.
"Substances in miso help prevent cell death caused by radiation. Soon
after the Chernobyl accident, the miso was exported to Russia as a form of
prevention," said Kenji Okajima.
