Vacuuming or damp cloth move frequently to remove dust is the first recommendation of experts .

" The dust in the home is a great source in the exposure of children to toxic substances , including lead , even at low levels , is known to impair brain development ," said Bruce Lanphear , a specialist in children's environmental health consultant and CPCHE .

" The developing brain of a fetus or a child is particularly sensitive to the neurotoxic effects of lead , mercury and other toxic substances ," said Lanphear . " A child absorbs 50 % of ingested lead, whereas an adult absorbs 10 % ."

According to the expert , the child tends to put his hand in his mouth frequently , which further increases the risk of it to absorb these toxic substances .
