A study carried out by the
University of Maryland, USA, with 10 participants who had no apparent disease found
that when they listened for 30 minutes their favorite songs, the blood vessels
dilated. This gesture matches the reaction of a laugh when doing physical
activities or when taking blood medications. The director of cardiology at the
institution, Michael Miller, explains that there was a 26% increase in the
diameter of the vessels, while listening to music that did not please, there
was a 6% reduction. In this way, blood flows more easily, reducing the chances
of clots that cause heart attacks and strokes, in addition to reducing the
risks of vessel hardening, which are characteristic of atherosclerosis.
