Amebiasis



The Amoebiasis occurs when the human parasite Entamoeba histolytica is ingested through contaminated some food. It is in the large intestine, where eating (fagocita) our digested food, and can also occur from eating part of the intestinal wall, reaching the bloodstream and then go to the brain and heart.
The E. histolytica takes the form of a cyst when it is outside the body. In the cyst, the amoeba is much more resistant and can live for years in the water of rivers, lakes, vegetables, etc. When man eats them again, the cyst breaks releasing amoebae, closing the cycle.
Treatment
Intestinal forms: secnidazole - Adult - 2g single dose. Children - 30mg/kg/day, VO, not exceeding maximum 2g/day. Should be avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Option 2 - Metronidazole, 500 mg 3 times / day for 5 days for adults. For children, it is recommended 35mg/kg/dia divided into three outlets for 5 days.
Serious forms: (intestinal amoebiasis and symptomatic extra-intestinal amoebiasis)-Metronidazole, 750 mg, orally, 3 times / day for 10 days. In children, it is recommended 50mg/kg/day for 10 days. 3rd option - Tinidazole, 2g, VO, for adults, after meals, for 2 days for intestinal forms.
Prevention
Maintaining hygiene is essential to prevent this disease. Wash hands after using the toilet, wash thoroughly vegetables, fruits, etc. Do not use animal waste as fertilizer on crops, combat insects that can easily be contaminated, such as flies, cockroaches, mice, etc;
Drink only treated or boiled water, not trusting treatments with chlorine tablets.
Wash properly vegetables and fruits.
