Condylomata Acuminata

HPV

Infection caused by a group of viruses (HPV - Human Papilloma Viruses) that determine papillary lesions (skin elevations) which, to merge, form vegetating masses of varying sizes, resembling cauliflower (warts).
The most common sites of occurrence of these injuries are the glans, the foreskin and urethral meatus in men and the vulva, perineum, vagina and cervix in women.
In both sexes can occur in the anus and rectum, not necessarily related to anal intercourse.
With some frequency the lesion is small, difficult to see with the naked eye (without special lenses), but in most cases the infection is asymptomatic or inapparent, with no detectable expression by (a) patient.
Treatment
Available treatments are local (surgical, chemotherapeutic, burning etc.) and seek only the removal of the lesions (warts, warts and lesions of the cervix). Relapses (return from injury) may occur and are frequent, even with proper treatment.
Eventually, the lesions disappear spontaneously.
There is still a drug that eradicates the virus, but the cure of the infection can occur by action of the body's defense mechanisms.
Already there are vaccines to protect against specific types of HPV, and the same are indicated for non-carriers.

Prevention
Condoms used properly, from beginning to end the relationship, can provide some protection. Having a steady partner or reduce number of partners. Annual gynecological examination for screening of pre-invasive cervical cancer. Evaluation of (a) partner (a). Abstinence during treatment.
In 2006 it was approved by ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) Quadrivalent Vaccine utilization produced by Merck Sharp & Dohme Laboratory against the types of HPV 6,11,16 and 18, for girls and women 9 to 26 years who have not infection. This vaccine protects against the viruses mentioned above, which are responsible for 70% of cases of cervical cancer (types 16 and 18) and 90% of cases of warts (warts) genitals (types 6 and 11).
Control
Abstinence during the treatment period; forwarding partners to the health service for examination and treatment, if necessary. Health education: counseling. Do not forget that the appearance of HPV should serve as a sentinel event for HIV infection or other immunodeficiency. View Control Measures described for other STDs.
