Congenital heart disease

Congenital heart disease is a disease in which there is abnormal structure or function of the heart that is present at birth, even if discovered until much later.
Treatment
The ideal treatment is the correction of structural defect. As appropriate, we can require immediate surgery or wait months or years for surgery. As appropriate, the intervention can be made in utero. Each presentation has clinical peculiarities relating to medications or other measures indicated.
Prevention
Only 15% of cardiac malformations has determined its cause. In 85% of cases the cause is not identified. Thus, in 85% of cases there are no preventive measures. The non-exposure to possible aggressors (like X-rays), certain drugs (such as thalidomide) and people with infections with potential damage to the fetus (such as rubella) are naturally preventive measures. There are methods for early diagnosis, and study the chromosomes of cells from the amniotic fluid and fetal echocardiography. Early detection allows for a differentiated planning pregnancy and postpartum measures.
