Maneire on salt
Scientific studies have demonstrated the direct relationship between sodium intake and hypertension. According data of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology, the Brazilian consumes on average 12 grams of salt per day, while the recommended intake would limit this to 6 grams. In general, the amount is high because the salt contained in processed foods, people do not appeal to dispense the salt shaker during meals. According to nutritionist Eliane Cristina de Almeida, Unifesp, the greatest danger of sodium is that it is hidden in foods. "Foods such as fast food, frozen food, snacks, biscuits, soft drinks, cereal, sausages, chocolate, beef, dairy products contain good amount of sodium we do not usually see," says the expert.
