Myth: The
child begins to stutter for over-charging the parents.
Reality: Parents
of people who stutter are targets of various social stereotypes. Would be
overbearing parents, overprotective, with high expectations, perfectionists,
with feelings of rejection and ratings on undesirable personality of the child
who stutters. However, scientific advances have shown that parents are
responsible for their children stuttering. Moreover, certain attitudes can worsen
stuttering (eg, tell the child to stop stuttering, think before you speak or be
quiet). Thus, the family environment also plays an important role, but not so
much in appearance and, yes, recovery from stuttering. Therefore it is
extremely important that parents adopt attitudes that promote fluency.
