Stuttering

Myth: Stress causes stuttering.
Reality: Stress does not cause stuttering, but can make it worse and sometimes even improve stuttering. There are reports in the scientific literature, for example, that soldiers who stutter speak fluently in situations of war and people in situations of discussion, experience a great reduction of stuttering. The physiological changes caused by the degree of freezing response explain the improvement or worsening stuttering under stress.
