An edition of the
scientific journal The Lancet brought a huge picture of diabetes already made.
With the collaboration of researchers from around the world, the publication
analyzed the health information of 4 million people from 146 different
countries. The results show that the number of diabetic adults jumped from 108
million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014. “Aging, obesity and physical inactivity
contribute to this worsening”, says endocrinologist João Eduardo Nunes Salles,
of the Brazilian Diabetes Society. Having too much sugar in the vessels
promotes a pack of evil to the heart. First, the blood becomes viscous and
transits slowly, which facilitates the appearance of clots. Second, insulin,
responsible for putting glucose into cells, also has the function of relaxing
arteries. Since the hormone doesn't work well, the pressure tends to rise.
Finally, many diabetics face dilemmas with the scale. And the excess fat in the
abdomen is related to the presence of inflammatory substances that impair
circulation.
Goals (in mg / DL)
Normal less than 100
Changed between 100 and 126
Diabetes greater than 126
What to do?
Keep an eye on blood sugar
and maintain healthy habits, which help to contain these rates.
