Hookworm


The hookworm, also known as yellowing is caused by three types of worm: Necator americanus and the other two Ancylostoma genus, A. duodenalis and A. ceylanicum, species of nematodes parasitic worms. Females released eggs in the small intestine, which are expelled in the faeces and hatch between five and ten days, becoming infective larvae.

The popular name is due to yellowing yellowish presented by the infected person, resulting from the worm causes anemia in the host by sucking their blood.

In hot and damp earth, leaving the eggs larvae seeking a human host. Once set in the small intestine, where the larvae reach the adult stage, when it has capacity to release eggs, the worm starts to suck the blood of the person. To penetrate the skin, the larva causes redness, itching, swelling, feeling of "bite". Skin, the larva enters the bloodstream, where it undergoes transformations until it reaches the small intestine.
Diagnosis and treatment
The diagnosis is made by examination of faeces, and in acute cases infestation can also be detected by a blood test. Both are made through observation, with the aid of a microscope, by responsible professionals.
Use of shoes (shoe or sandal)
Avoid direct contact with contaminated soil;
Provision of basic infrastructure for the population
Providing basic sanitation and adequate conditions of hygiene;
Take great care as to the place of recreation for the children because eventually playing with earth;
Community education
The treatment of sick people.
Prevention
As a way to prevent disease is needed:
Health education in mass.
Engineering services sanitary (hygienic home construction, provided with clean water and adequate sanitation facilities).
Abolish completely fertilization with human feces.
Protect feet by wearing shoes.
Adequate diet, rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins and carbohydrates.
Treatment of patients (must be repeated with an interval of six months, two years or so in order to prevent the man to continue spreading the eggs. Uses up anthelmintics and antianemics.
